Currently trying out a VPN with privateinternetaccess but may terminate the service.
Main reason is that it takes a HUGE bite out of my internet speed. I ran 2 tests with the VPN set to ‘auto’ and with it disabled. The results were startling (sorry – forums won’t embed my images :/ ):
VPN on -> http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3384450992
VPN off -> http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3384461762
For latency my ping goes from 10ms (VPN off) to a huge 97ms (VPN on). Need less to say that would play merry hob with any online gaming I want to do on foreign servers.
For download speed I see almost a 40% decrease in thruput (37 Mbps -> 22Mbps)
Upload speed surprisingly saw little difference.
Not sure I am paranoid enough to give up all that throughput (I am paying a premium for the 35/10Mbps internet service!) just to be anonymous. I most certainly will turn this off if I am to do any gaming or heavy downloading. The latency is painful even in web browsing though.
To me its pretty useless ..the only things I do is gaming,shopping through amazon,ebay etc ..my Norton is good enough ..have no problems
Do ya have a problem with playing videos in our area since they are restricted in your country? Maybe your videos are buffering all the time? Do you log into public/untrusted networks?
Not that I recall of having problems with any video’s & its a public network (charter communications)ISP
