I’ll admit, I upgraded all of my PCs day one. No question. Why? Well, I’ve been following this “service patch” since it was called Windows 8.2. My thoughts, even with the last few technical previews, were that was far more stable than Vista’s initial release, and a lot less buggy than Windows 8.
On my desktop, despite finding a bug (don’t upgrade without first uninstalling Hyper-V!), all of my automatic scheduled tasks are functioning as they should. File mirroring to the server, despite NO CHANGE TO THE OWNCLOUD SOFTWARE (my method of pairing between Windows and FreeBSD Server) has actually improved; not faster network speeds, but faster comparison of “has this file changed”. And so far, I’m not seeing ANYTHING I don’t like. Every program that worked on 8.1 Pro works on 10 Pro.
On my tablet, I have found myself swapping between Tablet Modes (on=tablet, off=everything else)… but only based on the software I’m running. In general, it remains in tablet mode, and operability is almost EXACT to how Windows 8.1 felt.
So, in essence, my workflow hasn’t been changed. My wife jumped from Windows 7 to Windows 10, as did my kids’ shared PC, and I’m not even getting QUESTIONS on any changes. And that says something.
What are your thoughts?
I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. So far there have been a few bumps in the road. On a technical level Windows 7 was filling up my HDD’s for some reason. I removed files and stopped their anti-virus. Now I’ve noticed that Realtek audio is not working for 5.1 or 7.1 and I’ve tried everything to fix it. So I’m using one of my old crappy sound cards at the moment that tends to cut out once in a while, it’s just old. I’m not a fan of the white title bars, I want transparency. Some of my games on steam like TF2, have freaked out and lagged the computer long enough for me to force kill it. The Nvidia drivers didn’t want to install at first, then seem to work after a reboot. Nvidia still has a problem with HDMI and large screens using a limited range rather than full, no adjustments seem to work in the Nvidia control panel. Could not find away to edit my theme backgrounds without pasting in a link I found on the internet, I forgot to write it down. Other that those problems things have been running normal. At this point I’ve not seen any improvement in game performance and would still be happy with windows 7.
Windows 10 has some nice features, even has xbox message notifications integrated so if you like consoles it’s a plus.
I tried my Steam games with Windows 10 and they all seem to work properly, Skype now works, was a bit buggy at first and would randomly crash when you attempted to make a call to someone but now it works fine.
